Mark Olson and Associates is a professional design firm committed to delivering extraordinary outdoor living spaces that are environmentally sensitive, highly functional and aesthetically beautiful.
From humble beginnings, the path to Landscape Architecture was all part of the narrative that began in 1985 through the Future Farmers of America program while still in high school.
Mark Olson gained acceptance to the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at The University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Landscape Development that enhanced property and land began to make sense and further satisfy the need to improve all types of landscapes. This growing interest led to a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture, the third class in UMass’s newly formed expansion of the Regional Planning Department.
Upon graduation early involvement in the nursery industry brought Mark back to his “roots” doing large scale commercial and residential planting projects. Naturally this evolved into grading exercises, masonry or “hardscape” projects incorporating all of the elements found in the landscape. An opportunity to be involved in the architectural pavement industry led to many positive experiences related to sales, customer service and training within the design community as well as the field. This moment in time brought back the strong feelings to do and provide more. Seeking to be an industry leader a quarter centrury of landscape contracting along the New Hampshire Seacoast, northshore of Massachusetts and the coast of Maine have brought that great fulfillment of service to fruition.
Residential development and landscaping
During these 25 years, involvement in many landscape projects, primarily related to value added residential development has led to the expertise of providing what is often known in the profession as private garden design. Orchestrating all the facets of sound design, healthy soil and plants, structurally sound landscape elements and long-term construction practices, countless great projects have been delivered.
Working with small groups of other design professionals, government officials, allied tradesmen, employees, a vendors and a wide range of clients the process of building these spaces has been well vetted. These successes have been and continue to be incredibly satisfying. In the spirit of continuing to whet this appetite for improving the world in which we live and the way we go about that another new chapter creates the formation of Mark Olson and Associates.
